With an eye to achieving sustainable coastal development in their countries, more than 40 participants from 12 Mediterranean countries attended a two-day workshop on "The harmonization of the national legal and institutional framework with the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Protocol". The workshop was organized within the framework of the MedPartnership in Zagreb, Croatia, on 4-5 December.

Showcasing the role of NGOs in the MedPartnership at high level International Roundtable in Rome MIO-ECSDE presented the NGO Involvement component of the MedPartnership at the International Roundtable on Transboundary Water Resources Management in the Southern Mediterranean, which took place on 26-27 November 2012. The Roundtable was co-organised by UNECE, UfM, GWP-Med, GEF-IW:LEARN, MED EUWI and hosted by the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea. The high level meeting was attended by more than 60 participants.

New publication on "Making MPAs Work" shares lessons learned in the Mediterranean

"Making Marine Protected Areas Work - Lessons Learned in the Mediterranean" is the title of the new publication, released by WWF Mediterranean within the framework of the MedPartnership, providing easily understandable and useful guidance to all practitioners working to protect and manage the seas around the world. The report aims raise awareness on the role that well designed and effectively managed Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) can play in helping to maintain and rehabilitate the health of our seas.

Algeria keeps its momentum for ICZM!

On 21 November, the results of the first stage of the two pilot activities, namely, the development of a National ICZM Strategy for Algeria and of a Coastal Plan for Reghaia, have been presented at a meeting held in the premises of the Algerian Ministry of Land-Use Planning, Environment, and Town (MATEV). The meeting was organised by MATEV with the support of PAP/RAC and UNESCO-HIP in the framework of the MedPartnership.
